FESTIVALS: Hand Soap Wins Tallinn Animated Dreams Competition

    TALLINN: The Japanese animated film Hand Soap directed by Kei Oyama won the grand prix of the 12th Animated Dreams festival (19-23 November) which took place during the Black Nights festibal (www.poff.ee) running through 5 December 2010 in Tallinn.

    Grand Prix - "Wooden Wolf" (Prize of 1000EUR sponsored by Premia)

    Hand Soap

    Director: Kei Oyama, Japan

    This film touches a very strange moment in a person's life, with a strong vision from the directors that has a profound psycho and physiological influence.

    Best Design

    Tussilago

    Director: Jonas Odell, Sweden

    The simplifyed complexity of the visual helps us to step inside the environment of the time and expresses emotions.

    Best Story

    Divers in the Rain

    Directors: Olga Pärn, Priit Pärn, Estonia

    A story that can't be explained in words, but is perfectly told by two atmospheres.

    Angry Man

    Director: Anita Killi, Norway

    The film leads us to the director's light of empathy.

    Jury's Special Mention (II)

    The Lipsett Diaries

    Director: Théodore Ushev, Canada

    We thank the director of the film for the visual richness of a sad soul.

    Jury's Special Mention (III)

    The Smaller Room

    Director: Cristóbal León, Nina Wehrle, Switzerland

    In the ordinary room of imagination there can be a separated life.

    The students of Estonian Academy of Arts' animation department gave out their award for the second time as well - the "Brain-tap" inspired by Animated Dreams logo:

    My Mother's Coat

    United Kingdom 2010, 6'

    Director: Marie-Margaux Tsakiri-Scanatovits

    The winner is "My Mother's Coat" because it is condensed, subtle, honest and personal.

    The Audience Award went to:

    Angry Man
