Wild Roots is partially based on the director's personal experiences and it's a heartwarming family drama about a father and his teenage daughter who try to reconnect after several years apart.
Gusztáv Dietz and Zorka Horváth play the father and the daughter. They will both debut on the big screen with this film. The cast includes Éva Füsti Molnár and Viktor Kassai.
Wild Roots was produced by Juli Berkes (Proton Cinema) and Balázs Zachar in coproduction with Mátyás Prikler and Zora Jaurová (MPhilms). The Hungarian/Slovak coproduction was granted 175,565 EUR / 62 m HUF by the National Film Institute – Hungary after it won the Incubator Programme established to support first features. The project, which is also supported by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, has won the Works-in-Progress Award at Karlovy Vary Film Festival’s First Cut Lab programme.
Wild Roots will debut at one of the A-grade festivals later in 2021. Locarno, Karlovy Vary, Venice, Warsaw and Tallinn are all likely candidates.
Director Hajni Kis won numerous awards with her short films. Among them, Beautiful Figure / Szép alak was nominated for the Student Academy Award and Last Call received the Best Student Film Award at the Sarajevo Film Festival.
