By

CANNES: The 5m EUR German/French TV series Age of Iron is set to shoot in Latvia in October. The six episodes of the series will be produced by Luxfilm of Germany and Slot Machine Films of France. Latvia’s Film Angels Studio will provide services.

The historical series about the 30 Years War is one of a wave of foreign productions in recent year to take advantage of Latvia’s 25% tax rebate scheme. The project, which received Creative Europe MEDIA support, has already been pre-sold to a number of European TV channels.

Slot Machine is no stranger to Latvia having recently shot Sergei Loznitsa’s Cannes Competition entry A Gentle Creature there with Film Angels as a coproducer. Slot Machine’s Carine Leblanc said: “We were very happy with our experience in Latvia. This is why we are coming back.”

A Gentle Creature received cash rebates from both Latvia’s 25% National Film Centre rebate scheme and the Riga Film Fund’s 20% cash rebate scheme.
