Lithuanian Tax Incentive may Attract 15m EUR Film Production this Year

VILNIUS: The tax incentive for film production in Lithuania that came into force in January last year is already showing results, but a breakthrough is to be expected this year, according to the Lithuanian Film Centre. The tax instrument may attract €15m worth of film production to Lithuania in 2015.

Since early 2014, the LFC has received 25 applications to use the incentive. 21 projects have already been issued with the film qualification certificate proving that the films meet the established cultural and production criteria. Applications come from a range of countries, including Lithuania, UK, Finland, Russia and Germany.

The filming of the romance-drama Kätilö by the renowned Finnish filmmaker Antti J. Jokinen was finished in Vilnius this summer. Kätilö was produced by the Finnish production company Solar Films and Lithuanian production company Nordic Productions.

A film qualification certificate was issued to the producers of BBC’s drama The Eichmann Show directed by Paul Andrew Williams, which was also shot in Vilnius, with Baltic Film Services contributing. Spanish writer and director Daniela Féjerman also got a chance to shoot her new feature La espera (The Wait) in Vilnius. The full length film is produced by the production company Tornasol Films in collaboration with Messidor Films, Televisión Española and Lithuania’s UAB Lietuvos Kino Studija.
