The Ancient Forest is a poetic essay focusing on the inhabitants of an old forest - birds, animals as well as elderly people living nearby. The director told FNE, "One of the differences between Western Europe and Lithuania is that we still have some small pieces of nature that have been left untouched by humans. But the situation is changing in here as well... So we must record these unique landscapes now."
Shooting used original climbing and diving equipment, which enriched the cinematic language with a variety of camera angles and shots. The director of the film is also the DoP.
The film is produced by Mindaugas Survila through Sengire with funding from the Lithuanian National Film Center and Creative Europe programme, which supported it with 25,000 EUR.
Shooting took place in Lithuania and the documentary will be 61 minutes long and there will also be a shorter television version of 52 minutes.
