In this creative documentary two sisters from Lithuania, a filmmaker and a photographer, take a journey through their German grandmother’s past. During their research the authors encountered her love story, her discomfort over being German in Soviet Lithuania and a chain of suicides in their family. The documentary is driven by a need to talk about unspoken topics, look for answers and break taboos.
Shooting, which lasted 3 years, took place from 2014 till 2016. The film takes place in Germany and Lithuania as the characters uncover their roots and long-forgotten stories.
The film is produced by Ieva Norvilienė through Lithuania's Tremora in coproduction with German Dagstar Film. It received support from the Lithuanian Film Centre, Film und Medien Stiftung NRW and Filmförderungsanstalt. The budget is 178,000 EUR.
