Set in Europe in the summer of 1976, the plot revolves around Gus (13), whose reassuring and familiar universe starts to crack under the heat. Witnessing the destruction of his nuclear family, traditional farming and patriarchy, Gus has to grow up fast and quickly leave behind the innocence of his childhood.
The script written by Joanne Giger is an adaptation of the eponymous novel by the Swiss author Roland Buti.
The film is a coproduction between Box Productions from Switzerland, Entre chien et loup from Belgium and Elzévir Films from France, with Kino Oko servicing in Macedonia.
Centre du Cinéma, Screen Brussels, RTBF, BeTV, Macedonia’s Film Production Incentive Programme and Eurimages are supporting. The Macedonia’s cash rebate is 20%.
Shooting is taking place entirely in Macedonia from 20 July to 24 August 2018.
