SKOPJE: The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of North Macedonia has announced a feature film, a documentary and a television series to honour the late music icon Toše Proeski (1981-2007). Most of the national television stations from the Balkans are expected to join.

SKOPJE: Admissions for domestic films in North Macedonia saw a significant decline in 2024, dropping by more than 50% at the country’s major cinemas, compared to 2023.

SKOPJE: Macedonian writer/director Georgi M. Unkovski, whose debut feature DJ Ahmet world-premiered in Sundance’s World Cinema Dramatic Competition 2025 where it won the Audience Award, is currently in preparation with the animated series Bukvozhder.

SKOPJE: The acclaimed Macedonian director Teona Strugar Mitevska is currently in postproduction with her seventh feature film Mother / Majka, an international coproduction set to be released in 2026. The cast is led by the Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, and Kinology is handling the international sales.

SKOPJE: The Macedonian Government has appointed Veronika Buchkovska as the new acting director of the North Macedonia Film Agency. She is replacing Daniela Stankovska-Plachkovska, who recently resigned from the position.

SKOPJE: Georgi M. Unkovski’s debut feature DJ Ahmet has been acquired by Berlin-based Films Boutique ahead of its world premiere in the World Dramatic Competition section within the 2025 Sundance Film Festival (23 January – 2 February 2025). The film is a coproduction between North Macedonia, Czech Republic, Serbia and Croatia.

BITOLA: The 5th Forum of UNESCO Creative Cities of Film, which took place in Bitola, North Macedonia from 5 to 7 December 2024, has gathered international film professionals from eight UNESCO Creative Cities of Film to discuss sustainability and eco-conscious practices within the film and creative industries.

SKOPJE: Macedonian director Gjorche Stavreski is currently in production with his sophomore feature Swaps / Trampi. The film is a Macedonian/Czech coproduction supported by the North Macedonia Film Agency and the Czech Film Fund.

SKOPJE: The acclaimed Macedonian composer and author of film music Ljupcho Konstantinov passed away on 17 October 2024 at age 78.

BITOLA: Judith Kaufmann, the cinematographer of the German film Teacher’s Lounge / Das Lehrerzimmer directed by Ilker Çatak, received the Golden Camera 300 at the 45th edition of the International Cinematographers' Film Festival Manaki Brothers. The festival took place in Bitola, North Macedonia from 21 to 27 September 2024.
