The negotiations were concluded “following lengthy discussions,” according to the MFC, and are part of its efforts to establish an archive of productions shot in and around the Mediterranean island nation. Additionally, the MFC - with a mission to attract foreign film production to the country - called the films “a testament to the long history of Malta serving as a base for film production.”

Malta has secured the screening rights to the films, which have not been seen on the island in the past 80 years. The MFC plans to organize free screenings of the films. The four films are: Son of the Seas (1925), The Battles of Coronel and Falkland Islands (1927), The Marquis of Bolibar (1928), and Tell England (1931).
