The shoot started on 29 June 2011 in Katowice and will continue till the end of July on locations in Silesia, Masovia and Pomerania.
Fifth Season of the Year (Piąta Pora Roku) is a dark comedy about a romance between two elderly people from different walks of life. A retired coal miner and a piano teacher share a dream of taking a trip to the seaside. They reveal the secrets of their pasts as their relationship grows more intense. The film is a portrayal of mature Poles 20 years after the establishment of democracy - people who spent their youth and most of adulthood living under a different system.
The movie is produced by Documentary and Feature Film Production Company ( WFDiF, www.wfdif.com.pl) with a budget of 3.4 million PLN (EUR 860,000). It received a 200,000 PLN grant from the Silesia Film regional fund (www.silesiafilm.com.pl). The lead producer is Paweł Mantorski from WFDiF.
Domaradzki is a Warsaw University graduate with a masters degree in Social Studies. In 1985 he won the Grand Prix Chianciano Terme at the International TV Drama Festival "Teleconfronto" for his film Three Windmills. His most popular work is the drama Peace Run about the harsh realities of life in the early years of communist Poland. The film was awarded nationally at the PFF in Gdynia in 1986 and internationally in 1987 at the IFF in Moscow and the World Film Festival Montreal .
The script for the Fifth Season of the Year was written by young screenwriter Natalia Pryzowicz. The cinematographer is Zbigniew Wichłacz, an experienced Polish filmmaker best know for his work in Requiem (2000) directed by Witold Leszczyński. The music is composed by Jerzy Satanowski. The lead roles are played by Marian Dziędziel, who gave award-winning performances in The Wedding (2004) and Evil House (2009) both directed by Wojciech Smarzowski, and Ewa Wiśniewska, a star of the Polish cinema and television most popular for her work in the early Polish series Doctor Ewa (1970) and her later roles in costume dramas including box office hit With Sword and Fire (1999).
The Polish premiere is planned for spring 2012.
