Big Love is a coming-of-age story about seventeen year old Emilia who falls in love with an older man. He introduces her to the world of adult relationships, passion and rebellion. The girl leaves her home and moves in with her lover. Her naive notion of an ideal love affair is revised when she tires to become more independent and start a music career. The changes within her turn her "big love" into a toxic game.
Shooting took place in Warsaw in June and July 2011. The producer is Watchout Productions (www.watchoutproductions.pl), a Polish television and film production company based in Warsaw. The budget is 2.7 million PLN (EUR 642,000 ) with 1.8 million PLN (EUR 428 000) from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl).
Białowąs also wrote the script. Her short feature debut My New Way, made as part of the "30 minutes" program, was highly praised as one of the most promising local film debuts in 2009. The cinematographer for Big Love is Bartosz Piotrowski, who worked with Białowąs on My New Way. The female lead is played by Aleksandra Hamkało, a young Polish actress popular for her television work and recent appearance in Suicide Room directed by Jan Komasa. The cast includes Antoni Pawlicki, Rovert Gonera, Mateusz Banasiuk and Małgorzata Pieczyńska.
The Polish premiere is planned for February 2012.
