{mosimage}Carnage was shot between January and March 2011 at the Studios de Bry based in Bry-sur-Marne, France. Carnage was coproduced by SPI Film Studio (www.spifilmstudio.com), Constantin Film Produktion (www.constantin-film.de)
and SBS Productions with a budget of 20 million EUR. The
production received significant support from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl) through the Polish coproducer SPI Film Studio, a production unit of SPI International Poland.
The film is based on a play written by Yasmina Reza, The God Of Carnage.
The story involves a fight between two primary school boys and
their parents attempt to resolve the conflict. In a series of
simultaneously dark and comic events the true colors and agendas of the
"grown ups" eventually emerge. The cast includes Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christoph
Waltz and John C. Reilly in the lead roles.
The Polish Film Institute graded the script and application for Carnage
with the highest notation and granted 2 million PLN. The film also received support from the
German regional fund FFF Bayern (www.fff-bayern.de).
The presence of a Polish director and Polish coproducer had also
resulted in a greater number of Polish film crew members including cinematographer Paweł
Edelman and his assistants
Jeremi Prokopowicz and Zbigniew Gustowski.
After the premiere in Venice, the film is set to for an international release by Sony Pictures Classics (www.sonyclassics.com) on 12 December 2011.
