By Katarzyna Grynienko

WARSAW: Polish Film Institute has initiated a special agreement between public institutions, schools and independent organizations to improve the film education among the Polish school youth: the Coalition for Film Education.

The agreement was official signed on 19 September 2011 by the representatives of the Polish Film Institute ( www.pisf.pl), Center For Citizenship Education (www.ceu.org.pl), Warsaw Film School (www.szkolafilmowa.pl), Fundacja Generator (www. fundacjagenerator.pl), New Horizons Association (www.nowehoryzonty.pl), Centralny Gabinet Edukacji Filmowej (www.palacmlodziezy.lodz.pl) and Andrzej Wajda Master School Of Film Directing (www.wajdaschool.pl).

The main goals of the newly created coalition is to make film education public in Polish schools, facilitating access to film productions, teaching the methods of critical and analytical approach to film, increasing the role of film as a didactic tool used in schools to teach the students about society and culture, teaching practical techniques of filmmaking and engaging film education professionals in work benefitting children and youth.

"Film exists in schools thanks to passionate teachers, but it is not a solution introduced by the system. With this conference we would like to appeal first and foremost to the Ministry of Education to analyze the current situation and prevent the fact that the Polish school has been left behind in the 20th Century. We are all in the 21st Century, including the students," Agnirzeszka Odorowicz, the Director of the Polish Film Institute, said at the signing.

The coalition is open for all cultural institutions to join. More information can be found at www.koalicjafilmowa.pl.
