They have been asking as for two years: what about this film about president Wałęsa made by Andrzej Wajda? I am hoping that it will be our great success," Agnieszka Odorowicz, the Director of PISF, said at a press conference.

Wajda plans to start the shoot on location in Trójmiasto, where most of the scenes are to be filmed. The director talked about the significance of this film for him and the Polish audience. "This is the most difficult film that I've ever made and I have to admit that this year is the 55th anniversary of my first time behind the camera. It is simply beautiful that a Pole such as Wałęsa represented us to the world," Wajda said.

{mosimage}The screenwriter is Paweł Głowacki and the cinematographer is Paweł Edelman. Wajda made last minute changes with the casting and gave the part of the president's wife Dauta Wałęsa to Agnieszka Grochowska instead of Olga Bołądź as announced earlier in the week. Lech Wałęsa will be played by Robert Więckiewicz, one of the most accomplished Polish actors of the decade. Monica Bellucci, who was set to play Oriana Fallaci, withdrew from the project at the last minute.
