The film was shot in 35 days in Warsaw and Jastarnia. The 1.3 m PLN film is produced by Konrad Wróblewski's ABSOLUT MEDIA and Sebastian Buttny and coproduced by Futro Film (http://futrofilm.eu), Kreativa (http://KREATIVA-STUDIO.PL) and PWSFTviT in Łódź (www.filmschool.lodz.pl), but funding is entirely from private sources and by the Film Collective, supported by filmmakers and small production companies providing professional equipment and services. None of the filmmakers or actors was paid during the shooting.
Heavy Mental is the story of an unemployed actor suffering from a mental block who receives an offer to play a tragicomic part in his own life.
"Producing a debut film is an extremely difficult issue in Poland due to the fact that big financial support is unwillingly given to young directors. As I have noticed, commercial projects are supported if they have recognizable director, art house films are supported if its’ directors are offering strong, sharp subject," Wróblewski said. "However, Sebastian Buttny put forward a film project that turned out to be an original, contemporary story about average people who are afraid of being... ordinary."
The film is in the final stages of post-production. The producer is in the process of seeking Polish distributors, international sales agents, and festival screenings.
