Michał Bielawski and his crew are planning to trail Polish champions throughout the summer with the final shoot planned for the 2013 Men's European Volleyball Championship set in Poland against Denmark. The production launched on 9 May with a shoot in Spale.
"With this film I plan to show the beauty of the sport that comes from very hard work," said Bielawski. "It is a big undertaking and I would like for the viewers of the documentary to know something more about the world of volleyball and about the private life of the players, but keep away from cheap sensation."
Bielawski made his directing debut with Mundial, a documentary about the Polish upset during the "España '82" soccer World Cup, produced by Unlimited Film Operations in co-production with Canal+ Polska, Telewizja Polska, European Solidarity Centre, Adam Mickiewicz Institute and WDFiF and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. The film was highly praised by the jury during this year's Planete Doc festival and received an honorable mention for its "emotional, intense snapshot of an event shown from two different perspectives" and was called the "cinematic equivalent of a clear-cut goal.”
The Team is produced by Gutek Film and Unlimited Film Operations with a budget still to be announced. Its premiere is planned for 2014.
