The Krauzes, two of Poland's most lauded art film co-directors, initially developing the project as a Polish-American co-production with Nick Nolte slated for the lead. In the end the part went to critically acclaimed Polish actor Andrzej Chyra and the project changed scope significantly.
"We left what can be called one sentence from the Albiński novel," said Kos-Krauze. "It is a completely new, different story about difficult love and getting past terrible trauma." The filmmakers are currently casting the genocide survivor role, likely to go to an actress from France or Belgium.
Wrocław and surrounds will serve as key locations but the crew will film in Rwanda in the spring. The title is produced by Argomedia Sp.zoo. with a planned budget of 5.6 million PLN (1.3 million EUR). The film won 3 million PLN in production financing from the Polish Film Institute.
