Holland will adapt Olga Tokarczuk’s bestselling novel Drive Your Plough over the Bones of the Dead under the title Game Count/Pokot. The script co-written by Holland and Tokarczuk follows a series of crimes in a small community. The victims are people who are cruel to animals. An elderly villager Janina finds herself a prime suspect in the police investigation.
The leading role will be played by Stanisława Celińska, one of the icons of Polish cinema and theather. The film also stars the renowned Czech actor Miroslav Krobot. Production will launch in Kotlina Kłodzka in June 2015 and it will be followed by a second shoot in autumn and a third shoot in the winter of 2015/2016. Joanna Dylewska, Holland's long time collaborator, is the DoP.
The film is produced by TOR Film Production in coproduction with Heimatfilm GmbH (Germany), Chimney Group (Sweden) and Nutprodukce (Czech Republic). The budget is approximately 3m EUR.
The film received a project development grant of 58,000 EUR from the MEDIA Programme in 2012, as well as a 3,5m PLN / 843.000EUR of production funding from the Polish Film Institute in its final grant session of 2013. The film is also supported by the Polish-German Film Development Fund.
