The extradition hearing of Roman Polanski took place in Cracow on 25 February 2015 and lasted over nine hours. "It was very tiring and painful in a sense. I had to go back to matters that I would like to forget", Polanski told the media afterwards. He was charged in the USA for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977, and then left the country.
New documents arrived from the US concerning the request for extradition that the American government issued to Switzerland. The documents are mostly in German and they need to be translated so that the Polish court can include them as evidence. Even if the court decides to extradite Polanski to the USA, the final decision will be made by the Polish Minister of Justice, Cezary Grabarczyk.
The Polish-born filmmaker is planning to shoot his new film, An Officer And A Spy (working title) in June 2015. Pending the outcome of the court ruling the production is scheduled be shot in Warsaw and France with the premiere planned for 2016. The film will be produced in English with an American and British cast but with the participation of Polish filmmakers such as the DoP Paweł Edelman.
