The story takes place just before the outbreak of the Great Polish Uprising in 1918. A group of clairvoyants try to use their abilities to protect the renowned Polish pianist and politician Jan Paderewski from a mental attack the eminent medium Doctor Abuse, who works for the Prussian Army. The plot is a mix of historical facts and fiction.
The film is produced by Studio Filmowe KADR (www.sfkadr.com) and Film-Art in coproduction with Nina, Alvernia Studios, TP S.A, Vue Movie Distribution, HBO Polska and Inegium Foundation.
The budget is 5.9 m EUR / 25 m PLN. The project received financial support from the Polish Film Institute and Marshal Office of the Wielkopolska Region Marek Woźniak which jointly organized a special contest for a script on the Great Polish Uprising. The script written by Łukasz Barczyk won.
Shooting took place on location in Warsaw, Poznań and Łódź from October 2012 to January 2013. The international cast includes Patrycja Ziółkowska, Jakub Gierszał, Sandra Korzeniak, Jan Peszek, Crispin Glover, Artur Krajewski and Florence Thomassin. Influenza had its domestic premiere on 23 January 2015 and has sold 60,581 tickets so far. Vue Movie Distribution is the local distributor, while Studio Filmowe KADR is handling the international sales.
