Eastern Business is an unusual fusion between dark comedy and road movie. The film follows Marian and Petro, both in their 50's, who decide to try and change their faith for the last time. The men buy horseshoes from Caucasian gangsters and plan to re-sell them in Ukraine. Their business plan falls short when they are faced with one bad situation after another.
The production is the second film from Cobielanski, who made his début with the critically acclaimed drama The Unsaved (Saga Film). The film is a coproduction between Alien Film Production and Just a Moment, made with the support of the National Center for Cinema and Lithuanian Film Centre. The budget is 700,000 EUR.
The film was shot in July and August of 2015 at 57 locations (rural areas and Bucharest surroundings)
"The final cut will be ready in 2-3 weeks and we are ready to move in the post-production stage in December 2015. We are looking for postproduction support as there are no postproduction studios in Romania. The premiere is planned for the summer of 2016 and we are currently looking for festivals and distribution," producer Iuliana Tarnovetchi told FNE.
