Admissions increased by 16% compared to 2015, when 44.6 tickets were sold. Patryk Vega’s action thriller Pitbull. Dangerous Women (TVP) set a record with 2.1 m admissions during the first three weeks in cinemas and 2.769 m tickets sold to date. The market also noted a financial record with 219 m EUR / 960 m PLN gross, compared to almost 188 m EUR / 823 m PLN in 2015.
Vega’s hit was followed by Mitja Okorn’s romantic comedy Planet Single (a Polish/Slovenian coproduction produced by Gigant Films), which was released in Poland by Kino Świat on 5 February 2016, selling 1.9 m tickets to date.
The third position in Polish box office 2016 is taken by the U.S. blockbuster Ice Age 5 with 1.45 m tickets sold, closely followed by Wojciech Smarzowski’s Hatred (Film It), which was released in Poland by Forum Film Polska on 7 October 2016, selling 1.43 m tickets to date. The top 5 is closed by the first installment of Patyk Vega’s crime trilogy Pitbull. New Order (Ent One), that premiered in Polish cinemas on 22 January 2016, selling 1.4 m tickets to date. Vega is currently the only Polish filmmaker with two films in the first three top local productions in one year, with both films selling over 3.5 m tickets.

Admissions top ten of Polish films in 2016 includes five films with over 1 m admissions and is composed of: Pitbull. Dangerous Women (2.769 m admissions), Planet Single (1.917 m admissions), Hatred (1.434 m admissions), Pitbull. New Order (1.433 m admissions), 7 Things You Didn’t Know about Men (1.143 m admissions), These Daughters of Mine (Kalejdoskop Film Studio, 734,706 admissions), Last Family (504,193 admissions), Smoleńsk (Fundacja Smoleńsk 2010, 461,738 admissions), Weak Gender? (Monolith Films, 369,760 admissions) and Story of Roj (Dr Watkins, 310,212 admissions).
In 2015 Maciej Dejczar’s Letters to Santa 2 (TVN) topped the domestic box office with over 2.5 m admissions since its opening on 13 November 2015.
