The Polish Film Institute's awards were created in 2008 in order to show appreciation for the efforts of many cinema enthusiasts and organisations, that propagate knowledge about the cinema, promote Polish films, educate young viewers, publish information about films and organise festivals, retrospectives, exhibitions and meetings with creators. The candidates are nominated by cultural institutions, film schools and other companies and institutions working within the culture sector.
"I want to congratulate all the winners and the nominees, as the choice was extremely difficult. The selection of the nominees was a great challenge and the choice of winners was even harder, in one category even surprising. We've received 290 submissions and all the nominees are joined by one word: passion. Without them the Polish cinematography would be a lot more deficient," the Director of PISF Radosław Śmigulski said during the celebratory gala.
