Saviours Square wins top honours in Trieste

    Saviour's Square (Plac Zbawiciela), a contemporary Polish drama by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze, took top honours at the Trieste International Film Festival which closed Thursday (Jan. 24). The jury cited the film for its excellent construction and for its depiction of human interrelationships during times of economic crisis.

    The film was produced by Zebra Film Studio (www.zebrafilm.pl) and co-produced by Polish Television - Film Agency) and Canal+ Polska.

    It also won the Grand Prix-Golden Lion at the 2006 Polish Film Festival in Gdynia for its producer Juliusz Machulski and various other awards.

    The film depicts the crisis of a contemporary family during times of economic hardship,

    Saviour's Square was not the only Polish film to capture an award. Time to Die, by Dorota Kędzierzawska and Arthur Reinhart, was singled out for special distinction by the jury and the audience. The story, of an elderly woman who fights to save her crumbling mansion, was highly evaluated for the acting of its heroine, 92-year-old Danuta Szafarska.

    The Trieste festival screened 13 feature films, over 20 shorts and numerous documentaries.
