Polishfilmclub: Polish cinema screened in Ireland

By

Activities to promote Polish films abroad continue to spread. The latest development is Polishfilmclub, which will be screening Polish cinema in various cities in Ireland such as Dublin, Cork, Cavan, Naas, Limerick, Sligo and Galway. The first screening was of Feliks Falk's The Collector on Feb. 4 in Dublin.

Aside from the screenings, parallel events include creation of an interactive web portal (www.polishfilmclub.com) providing information on Polish cinema, cultural events, movie trailers and competitions. Registered members will gain access to a monthly newsletter and a discussion forum.

Polishfilmclub is sponsored by the Irish bank Permanent TSB. Its creation follows the establishment of a similar enterprise, The Polish Connection, in the U.K.

Richard Carolan, managing director of Polishfilmclub, said among upcoming screenings will be Andrzej Wajda's Katyń, Andrzej Jakimowski's Tricks and Saviour's Square by Krzysztof Krauze and Joanna Kos-Krauze. Polishfilmclub will also support the screenings of Polish films at the upcoming Jameson Dublin International Film Festival Feb. 15-24.

Polishfilmclub is subsidized by Permanent TSB, Polski Express and Metoo.i.e. The Polish Film Institute and the Polish Embassy in Dublin are the official partners of the enterprise.
