Kolski's Venice awarded in Montreal

    One of the most awaited Polish films of 2010 has won the best artistic contribution at the 34th Montreal World Film Festival (www.ffm-montreal.org), where it had its international premiere. The most recent work of Jan Jakub Kolski, one of the most popular Polish directors and screenwriter of Jasminum and Pornography, is a magical story about 11-year-old Marek who recreates a plan of a floating city in his basement in order to shut out the outbreak of war in 1939.

    The cast includes Marcin Walewski as the boy accompanied with two popular Polish actresses, Magdalena Cielecka and Agnieszka Grochowska, as his mother and aunt.

    Venice was shot in September and October of 2009. The movie is produced by Akson Studio (www.akson-studio.pl) in co-production with Telewizja Polska (www.tvp.pl) and Studio Filmowe Tramway (www.tramway.pl).The budget was 6.2 million PLN (€1.5 million) with 3.5 million PLN financed by the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl). The film opened in Poland in June, distributed by ITI Cinema (www.iticinema.com.pl). Praised for its extraordinary visual quality and moving content, Venice was strongly considered for forwarding as a possible Polish Oscar nomination.
