The response was a happy surprise for Vimba, who told FNE that he had been warned to expect only a handful of meetings as a first-time director.
The film about a brother and sister who decide to hide their grandmother’s death in order to avoid being sent to an orphanage is scheduled to go into production at the end of 2013. The producers have lined up 70,000 EUR of the film’s 470,000 EUR budget, including development support from MEDIA and the State Culture Fund of Latvia (www.latfilma.lv). Iceland’s Vintage Films is onboard as a coproduction partner, and public broadcaster Latvian TV (www.ltv.lv) is the most recent partner to join the project.
The producers were looking for coproducers (especially from Germany), distributors, and a sales agent. The team said they are looking for creative input, a French-speaking actor, a foreign shoot (potentially in the U.K.), a DoP, and postproduction services.
The project was selected for the B’EST (be.poff.ee) workshop in Tallinn and Moscow, and Tasse Film’s Alisa Gelze was a 2008 “Producer on the Move.”
