Poland is now one of the leading European cinema markets, with more than 44.7 million admissions in 2015, an increase of 10.6 % from 2014. Box office increased by 13.2 %, driven by the success of domestic films.
Across Central and Eastern Europe, positive developments in 2015 were noted in Bulgaria, which saw a rise of 11.1 % in box office and 8.7 % in admission. The Czech Republic had a comeback year, with box office up by 14.1% and admissions up by 11.7 %. Romania continued to see growth, with box office up by 16.6 % and admissions up by 18 %.
Slovenia was the only territory to see a decline, with box office 5.3% down, to 8.7 m EUR, and admissions 11.3% down, to 1.6 m and a per capita admissions rate of 0.8.
Per capita admissions remain well below par in Romania, with 0.6 admissions per capita; in Bulgaria, at 0.7 per capita admissions; and Bosnia & Herzegovina, at 0.2 admissions per capita. Estonia had one of the highest rates in Europe, at 2.4 per capita admissions.
