He shot A Nine-Minute Interval, a Romanian-French coproduction in Bucharest this autumn, a major break from his Moldavian hometown of Vaslui where he shot his previous features.
A Nine-Minute Interval/Un interval de nouă minute tells the story of Paul, a young film director who is going to make a new movie. Marcela Ursu is producing through the Romanian 42km Film (www.42kmfilm.ro), in coproduction with Sylvie Pialat and the French company Les Films du Worso (www.lesfilmsduworso.com).
The budget is 750,000EUR. The project received a production grant of 250,000EUR plus an artistic quality supplement from the Romanian National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro), a production grant of 90,000EUR from Cinéma du Monde, the new program of the French CNC (www.cnc.fr), a grant of 140,000EUR from Eurimages (http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/eurimages/default_en.asp), and 100,000EUR from Les Sociétés de financement de l’industrie cinématographique et de l’audiovisuel (SOFICA, www.sofica.org), Marcela Ursu told FNE. The project also used a MEDIA develpment grant (http://ec.europa.eu/culture/media/index_en.htm) of 24,000EUR.
Shooting took place in Bucharest between 22 October and 15 November 2012 with Tudor Mircea (Morgen) as DoP. The main characters are played by Bogdan Dumitrache (Best Intentions) and the newcomer Diana Avrămuţ. Negociations with sales agent Wild Bunch (www.wildbunch.biz) are underway. The premiere is set for 2013.
