In the story, written by Florin Lăzărescu and Jude, a regional policeman and his teenage son track and catch a runaway gypsy slave. The title which translates as an ironic “Bravo!” in the Ottoman-Turkish language suggests a questioning of so-called objective historical truth, reflecting on the way values and habits are transferred from one generation to the next.
Ada Solomon who produced Jude’s previous two features is producing through HiFilm Productions (www.hifilm.ro) in coproduction with Elie Meirovitz of France’s EZ Films (ez-films.com) and Francesco Virga for the Italian company MIR Cinematografica (www.mircinema.com). The budget is 1.4m EUR, but no money is secured yet, Solomon told FNE.
The project is in early development and has been selected for the 30th edition of CineMart, the International Film Festival Rotterdam coproduction market, where producers will look for a sales agent. Shooting will cover approximately six weeks. “We will shoot the film in autumn or spring depending on when we secure the financing; autumn 2013 might be too early, but spring 2014 is more realistical,” Solomon told FNE. The premiere is tentatively planned for mid-2014 or spring 2015.
