For the 6th year in a row, Romania will be present at one of the most important and largest (7000 participants from over 90 countries) events of the international film industry, European Film Market.
The Romanian pavilion aims to promote Romanian cinema internationally and to provide the festival guests and the market professionals (distributors, producers, festival directors, journalists) with relevant news concerning the activities of the Romanian film industry while, at the same time, supports the interaction between Romanian and foreign filmmakers.
APFR publishes, once again, the Romanian Films catalogue, a compendium bringing together all the Romanian feature films and documentaries which premiered domestically in 2012 or which are about to be launched in 2013. At the same time, the Romanian pavilion provides visitors with the Romanian Short Films catalogue, a promotional piece focused on short films and edited by the Este'n'est association.
One of the key tasks of Romanian Film Promotion is to champion the Romanian filmmakers present in various sections and programs of the festival.
Călin Peter Netzer's newest film, Child's Pose, will have its world premiere within the Official Competition of Berlin International Film Festival. The Romanian director is rivaled in his quest for the Golden Bear by famous personalities of international cinema such as Gus Van Sant, Steven Soderbergh, Danis Tanovic or Ulrich Seidl. The official competition encompasses 19 feature films.
In addition, the film's two protagonists, Luminiţa Gheorghiu and Bogdan Dumitrache, have a fighting chance for the Silver Bear against some of the biggest names in acting today: Juliette Binoche, Catherine Deneuve, Jude Law and Matt Damon.
Child's Pose is a thrilling, emotional, yet humorous film on traumatizing children while suffocating them with love and on the marks that parents leave on their children’s personalities. The movie is also a depiction of the Romanian contemporary high-class, speaking about low-level corruption and trading of influence in the midst of the core social institutions and their extensions over the whole socio-economic system in Romania nowadays.
