It was one of six awards for the first English language film of Caranfil. The film was also awarded best director, script, cinematography, art directon and editing. The closest contender, QED by Andrei Gruzsniczki, was awarded for leading actor, costumes and make up. Several honorary and special prizes were also announced at the gala held on 6 May 2015. The awards of the Critics Association within UCIN were announced at the same event.
Closer to the Moon had previously received nine awards at the Gopo Gala organised by Romanian Film Promotion on 30 March 2015. At the same event, QED received five awards.
