Romanian CNC Announces Funding Plan for 2016

    BUCHAREST: The Romanian National Film Center will allot 6,741,573 EUR / 30 m RON at its first grant session in 2016. The second session will follow the new CNC regulations expected for June 2016.

    The funding is double than usual because one session in 2015 was cancelled. According to CNC representatives, the second session is due for autumn 2016 and is expected to ideally have the same amount, 6,741,573 EUR / 30 m RON. The minister of Culture, Vlad Alexandrescu announced in an interview for Adevărul Live on 29 February 2016 that the new CNC regulations will be approved by June 2016, so the second session of the grant contest would follow them.

    CNC allotted 5,832,142 EUR / 26,880,000 RON in 2014 with the results of the second session announced in March 2015.

    The results of the first session in 2016 are due to be announced in May 2016, before Cannes Film Festival. 3,977,528 EUR / 17.7 m RON (59%) from the total funding will go to feature film production, debut features will receive 1,011,235 EUR / 4.5 m RON (15%), short fiction films will receive 337,078EUR / 1.5 m RON, documentaries will get 674,157 EUR / 3 m RON and 67,415 EUR / 300,000 RON will go for development.
