Applications are open for young professionals from Romania and the Republic of Moldova already involved in cinema theaters' management or administration, as well as to all young people interested in taking this path and willing to learn from international tutors.
The initiative aims to fill a void, since Romania has no professional post-university training for film professionals and no introductory courses for cinema managers.
In 2014 Romanian Film Promotion and Transilvania IFF launched the national campaign Save the Big Screen/Salvaţi marele ecran consisting of documenting existing old cinemas, a documentary, seminars, a special screening during TIFF and a crowdfunding campaign.
Romania is now the country with the fewest cinema theaters per population in Europe. Seventy eight percent of Romanian towns don’t have any cinemas in use.
