Producer Anamaria Antoci told FNE that other sales are not confirmed yet, but negotiations are underway. Paris-based sales agent Versatile Films is handling the sales. The film, which was awarded the C.I.C.A.E. Award in Berlin’s Forum and Prix Sauvage at L’Europe autour de l’Europe Festival in Paris, was released in Romania by Domestic Film on 18 March 2016.

Sitaru co-wrote the script together with Alina Grigore, who plays one of the main characters alongside Robi Urs, Adrian Titieni and Bogdan Albulescu. The cast also includes non-professional actors from the acting school InLight, founded by Grigore and managed by Urs.

llegitimate, the fourth feature film from Sitaru, was produced by Anamaria Antoci through Domestic Film, in coproduction with Poland's Film Produkcja and France's Damned Films, with the support of Altex and HBO Romania.
