The Government blocked the move to digital TV last year when it issued an act cancelling the auction of the first two multiplexes and postponing by three years the move to the digital terrestrial TV, from 1 January 2012 to 1 January 2015. The new strategy should be discussed and approved by the Government within one month. The auction for the first two multiplexes could begin in spring 2011. The transition period will end on 1 January 2013.
The first multiplex will be given directly to the public television. The others will be given through a competitive selection: the second multiplex will need to be implemented in the transition period, the next three should be implemented after 1 January 2013, and the last one should be implemented after 17 June 2015 when the analog transmission will shut down completely.
