Stitches combines elements of thriller and melodrama, and deals with the story of newborn babies abducted from hospitals, which has been a hot social issue in Serbia recently. The script penned by Elma Tataragić tells the story of woman who firmly believes that her newborn baby was stolen from her more than 20 years ago, while she was told that her baby died.
The main character is played by Snežana Bogdanović, a theatre actress, who also appeared in major roles in acclaimed Yugoslav and Serbian films such as Kuduz (1989) directed by Ademir Kenović and produced by Avala Film, Bosna Film and Televizija Sarajevo, and Original falsifikata (1991) directed by Dragan Kresoja and produced by Profil, Televizija Beograd and Terra Film.
The cast includes: Marko Baćović, Vesna Trivalić, Dragana Varagić, Jelena Stupljanin, Ksenija Marinković, Jovana Stojiljković, Pavle Čemerikić, Rale Milenković, Rade Marković, Igor Benčina and Bojan Žirović.
Uliks Fehmiu and Milena Trobozić Garfield are producing through West End Production in coproduction with Slovenia’s Nora Production. The project was supported by Film Centre Serbia, the Slovenian Film Centre and Eurimages.
The film is lensed by Damjan Radovanović, much praised for his work for Vuk Ršumović’s directorial debut No One’s Son / Ničije dete (2014, produced by Art & Popcorn, BaBoon Production and Kinorama.
No details regarding the budget and sales agent have been revealed or confirmed yet. The film wrapped principal shooting on 21 August 2017 and is expected to be released in 2018.
