The film, a coproduction involving Serbia, Macedonia, Croatia, Slovenia, Germany and the UK, will receive 69,000 EUR from Film Center Montenegro’s latest grant round. The project previously received 159,000 EUR from the Macedonian Film Agency and 69,000 EUR from the Croatian Audiovisual Center – HAVC. In December Heavens Above got a grant of 253,000 EUR from Film Center Serbia. In addition, the project has also recieved grants from the Slovenian Film Centre and Germany's MDM Fund and ZDF/Arte.
The script, written by Dragojević and based on Marcel Ayme’s stories, deals with three stories about the impact of miracles on post-communist society, set in 1993, 2001 and 2018. The heroes reappear in different stories and in new, even more bizarre sets of circumstances, as their destinies intertwine.
The film, a major Serbian production and Dragojević’s eighth feature film, starts shooting in mid-March 2019 on location in Macedonia and Serbia, Montenegro and Germany with actors from Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia and Montenegro. The estimated budget is 1.9 million EUR.
