The film was released in France by Malavida Films on the very day French cinemas reopened after a long lockdown on 19 May 2021. More than 50 cinemas have already booked the film.
Who’s Singin’ Over There? was selected for the Cannes Film Festival’s official programme Cannes Classic in 2020.
The script written by one of the most popular Serbian playwrights Dušan Kovačević follows a group of people who set off for Belgrade in a dilapidated bus belonging to the firm Krstic and Son. Each of the passengers has pressing reasons to reach the capital as soon as possible. It is the spring of 1941, on the eve of the fascist attack on Yugoslavia.
The cast includes Pavle Vuisić, Aleksandar Berček, Danilo Bata Stojković, Mića Tomić, Dragan Nikolić, Neda Arnerić, Slavko Štimac, Taško Načić and Borislav Stjepanović.
The film was lensed by Božidar Bota Nikolić, who passed away in May 2021.
Who’s Singin’ Over There? / Ko to tamo peva? was produced by Centar Film, a production house based in the Serbian capital.
In December 2016 the film was voted best Serbian feature film of all times by film critics in a poll organised by the Yugoslav Cinematheque / Jugoslovenska kinoteka. Following that, it was digitally restored within the project A1 Kinoteka, conducted by the Yugoslav Cinematheque / Jugoslovenska kinoteka and the A1 company.
