By

KOSICE: A wealth of new TV programmes will compete for the Golden Beggar awards during the 19th International Festival of Local Televisions, held in the Slovak city of Kosice, 11-15 June 2013. With Kosice celebrating being named 2013 European Capital of Culture, this edition promises to be an especially rich event.

Strong representation of CEE programming includes titles from Poland, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovakia, as well as Hungarian films in the Young Authors category.

A rare celebration of audiovisual works meant for TV broadcast, the Festival will include a showcase over 60 documentary productions from the region and beyond. Golden Beggars are awarded in three categories: local television programming, films from production companies, and young authors, the category being funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic.

The festival is run by the City TV Foundation, which also trains professionals and distributes TV programs. This year's edition is accompanied by special events, including a panel on Media and Politics will be held on 13 June featuring representatives of government agencies, academia and production companies.
