The rise of Slovak documentaries is itself a well-documented story by now, and documentary filmmakers once again proved their mettle with three prizes going to Robert Kirchhoff’s investigative documentary Normalization (Slovak title: Kauza Cervanova) which took two awards at the Leipzig festival – Honorary Mention and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury – just days after receiving a special mention at the Jihlava IDFF. Also awarded in the context of the Leipzig festival was the film project Okhwan’s Mission Impossible by Marek Mackovic, awarded by the lecturers team of DOK Incubator.
Three Slovak docs will be among the 20 Slovak films (including shorts and student films) screening in the Bratislava IFF’s Slovak section. Meanwhile, five Slovak feature films, shorts and documentaries are screening at the Cottbus festival, running through 10 November, and the Noordelijk film festival (also taking place this week) selected seven Slovak films for a special retrospective on Slovakia.
