The series is one of a just a handful of new national animated programmes returning to public broadcaster Slovak TV after a 20 year absence of original domestic animated shows.

The Websters is being marketed as a CGI 3D animation sitcom for 6-8 year olds and their parents. Each episode will run 11 minutes. The project won the Best TV Project pitching prize at the 2013 Visegrad Animation Forum.

Kerekesova told that the series has a budget of 1m EUR, with 30-40% of the budget expected to be covered by Slovak TV. The series received 160,000 EUR for development from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, and has received an additional 40,000 EUR for production. It also received 60,000 EUR from Creative Europe MEDIA and support from the Ekran training programme for preproduction. The series is produced by Kerekesova’s company Fool Moon.
