Cinema do Brasil is an export program implemented by the State Audiovisual Alliance Industry for São Paulo (SIAESP) in partnership with the Brazilian Promotion Investment Agency (Apex -Brasil). The initiative enjoys the institutional support of the Brazilian National Film Agency (ANCINE).
With an investment of approximately 100,000 USD the first phase of the 2015 Distribution Support Award included 10 international distributors that will take eight national films to movie screens in 21 countries in the second half of the year. The Slovak distribution company will be one of them, with support of 6,000 USD.
Filmtopia will release in Slovak and Czech cinemas, together with Czech partner Cinema Glok, (the alternative distribution arm of Kamera Oko festival) two Brazilian films, the award-winning feature animation for kids The Boy and the World (Menino e mundo) directed by Alê Abreu and a feature documentary about street art in Sao Paulo, Grey City (Cidade Cinza) directed by Marcelo Mesquita and Guilherme Valiengo. The films will premiere in the beginning of October 2015 during the Brazil Visual festival in Slovakia and Kamera Oko festival in Czech Republic.
Ana Letícia Fialho, Cinema do Brasil Executive Manager, talked with FNE about their decision to support Slovak distribution. "The Cinema do Brasil distribution award started in 2009, allowing, up to now, the release of over 60 Brazilian films in more than 40 territories. Cinema do Brasil is very happy to support for the first time the release of two beautiful films in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The Slovak market is a new market for Brazilian films and we are confident, based on the application we received, that Filmtopia is the right distributor to introduce them to a new audience," she said.
The distribution project has also been financially supported by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund.
