Besides eight international projects in development dok.incubator also welcomed three documentaries made by Slovak filmmakers: A Good Death directed by Tomáš Krupa, New Life directed by Tina Diosi and the Italian-based production Before I Met You directed by Zuzana Limová.
A Good Death
Janette, the protagonist of Tomáš Krupa's A Good Death, is terminally ill and would like to have a dignified death, which is not possible in her homeland. So she gets in touch with Dr. Erika in Switzerland, who is willing to help her.
“The film is a documentary family drama focusing on a close family circle facing very hard circumstances. However, the story doesn’t speak only about euthanasia as a dominant factor, although euthanasia is present throughout the film. The film is about the courage to live a good life and die a good death to the best of our abilities and by our best conscience,” Tomáš Krupa told FNE.
Slovakia’s HAILSTONE is producing in coproduction with RTVS and Czech coproduction company MasterFilm. The estimated budget of 151,000 EUR is partially covered by a grant of 35,000 EUR from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund. Krupa is still seeking coproduction partners. Czech Television may get on board soon.
The film is in late production with the final cut set to be ready by the end of 2017. Theatrical release is planned for the second half of 2018.

New Life
Tina Diosi’s New Life follows the life of a Slovak community in Norway with 450 inhabitants. After closing of several factories in the Slovak region of Orava in 1989, many unemployed people started to look for a better life abroad and found a meat processing factory in Norwegian Loen as a solution.
The film will soon step into postproduction as a coproduction between Slovak's Furia Film and Kontrafilm from the Czech Republic. “We have the ambition to target not only our local audience, as the actual topic of migration for work and its bright and dark sides are a worldwide phenomenon,” director/producer Tina Diosi told FNE.
So far the Slovak Audiovisual Fund supported the project with 28,000 EUR and the coproducer RTVS invested 16,000 EUR. Producers are still open for possible collaborations, coproduction partners or distributors, mostly from Scandinavian countries.
The official release is planned for the end of 2017.

Before I Met You
Before I Met You by Zuzana Limová provides an intimate look at what goes on behind the closed doors of delivery rooms, where nobody but mothers-to-be are allowed to enter. The director takes a close look on Slovak maternity wards, which are often criticised for a bad condition and inappropriate treatment.
“The film got into trouble as representatives of hospitals haven't found this initiative appealing and wanted to stop its distribution legally. Many Slovak filmmakers and producers such as Zuzana Mistríková and Peter Kerekes helped me afterwards and wrote an open letter,” explains Zuzana Limová.
This international project including crew members from Germany, Italy and Slovakia was developed as a student project at the Italian film school ZeLIG. The final version of Before I Met You should be released in 2017. Plans are to distribute it as an educational material as well.
