In its initial week in distribution, ending 27 April 2016, Planet Singles attracted 14,525 viewers, almost three times as many as the US blockbuster The Huntsman: Winter’s War (3,400 admissions), opening the same week. Okorn’s romantic comedy had a first week box office of 75,000 EUR, 36% of the total weekly Slovenian box office.

The film repeated its success over the 29 April - 1 May weekend, when Planet Singles attracted another 9,128 viewers, holding on to the number one spot in Slovenia and far ahead of Kung Fu Panda 3 in the second spot with 3,629 admissions, and four other new releases. After the first two weeks of its release the Slovenian/Polish hit has topped 160,000 EUR in box office and it is expected to become one of the most watched movies this year.

Mitja Okorn made his film debut in 2004 with a youth drama Here and There, produced by his father Pavel Okorn through Pales d.o.o. He left Slovenia shortly after that and is now making films in Poland, where he is labeled as a “master of romantic comedies”. His first Polish hit was the Christmas comedy drama Letters to Santa (TVN) in 2011, which became one of the most successful films made by a Slovenian director shown in domestic cinemas with more than 65,000 admissions.

Planet Singles was produced by Radosław Drabik and Michal Chacinski from Gigant Films, coproduced with TVN, distributed by Kino Swiat in Poland, where it also topped the box office when it was released in February 2016.

Planet Singles, distributed in Slovenia by KOLOSEJ - REIT investicije, is a rare exception for the Slovenian audience, as CEE films are almost never shown in Slovenian cinemas.
