Our Family is a universal story that happens every day and is presented in four parts: the Idyll, the Crisis, the Collapse and the Catharsis. “During my research for the screenplay, I studied the system of the decline of the Slovenian middle class,” Jan Cvitkovič told FNE. “I was astonished to find how quickly a well-situated, middle-class family can be ruined because of the financial difficulties they found themselves in practically overnight. In cases where both of the parents are suddenly out of work, there is a chance that the family will not be eligible for social assistance or any other form of social care for another two years. In such cases, a complete breakdown of both adults and children occurs on a social, psychological and emotional level.”
The film stars Primož Vrhovec (Case: Ostenberg, Lignit Film), who studied acting in Beograd, Irena Kovačević, Miha Košec, Ula Gulič and well-known Slovenian actor Vlado Novak (Rooster’s Breakfast, Arsmedia). Marko Brdar is the DoP.
The film is a Slovenian/Serbian coproduction produced by Andrej Štritof and Aleš Pavlin through Perfo Production and by Miroslav Mogorović through Pilon Media. The estimated budget is 863,300 EUR. The project is supported by the Slovenian Film Center, Viba film, RTV Slovenija and Film Center Serbia.
Cvitkovič is also developing a script for his next film Hotel Alcohol, which will be produced by Staragara.
