Cinema Parallels is devoted to supporting independent and innovative films, screening contemporary cinema in all its forms and diversity, through a special curatorial selection of international and regional films. Cinema Parallels will celebrate its third edition from 7-9 July in Banja Luka, Srspka Republic, Bosnia. Cinema Parallels is organized by Video Kabinet and developed with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Srpska Republic, the U.S Embassy and in partnership with Gradsko Pozorište Jazavac and the University of Banja Luka.
Inner voices, infinite Landscapes define the name of our 2022 edition. In this program of intimate voices and domestic footage, the guest filmmakers unveil their inner universe, revealing to us their personal landscape and the impact of their voices in our world. Through travel diaries, family albums, first person narratives, video journals, emotional photographs, selfies or family VHS: Tin Dirdamal (MEX), Marko Grba Singh (Serbia) and Ivan Ramljak (Croatia), James N. Kienitz Wilkins (USA) and Fiamma Montezemolo (Italy-USA) share aspects of their present, personal and collective past, intimate moments, and dreams of future. The films of this third edition present a poetic and collective mirror of our present times, where we declare the video as a journal that chronicles our memoirs, intimacy and fears. Regional selection of films is integrated by: Kuča ima rogove By. Stefan Tomič, Anatomy of Hypomania. By Mina Vavan and Talog By Bransilav Stosic. New talents from University of Banja Luka and University of Sarajevo.
The educational element of this edition includes two free master classes: Fiction meets non-fiction by Tin Dirdamal (Artist/Filmmaker): A masterclass that seeks to find new narratives far away from the film world. Where fiction meets non-fiction, where film and non-film converge and Art + Anthropology: Intermedia Practices, video Installations and site-specific projects by Fiamma Montezemolo (Artist-Filmmaker / Professor of Cinema and Digital Media University of California Davis). Both artist from México and USA, will join the edition in the city to share their experiences at the Faculty of Arts with their master class and present their films at Jazavac Teather.
