CARTOON MOVIE TAKES A NEW LOOK AT EUROPEAN FILM ANIMATION
A total of 49 animated films will take part in the 11th edition of Cartoon Movie, a key meeting point for the European animation industry which will be held this year in Lyon from 4-6 March. The films, including completed projects and those still in development, come from 16 different countries and have a total budget of over 312 million Euros.
Once again France leads the event as producer or co-producer of 26 films which include participation from such prominent companies as Folimage, Les Armateurs, Gaumont or Millimages. Germany and Belgium with six projects each and Spain and Denmark with four make up the rest of the top 5.
The projects at this business forum span a wide range of genres conceived for different audiences and using various forms of animation techniques, from classic to cutting edge technology, reflecting the vitality and cultural diversity of European animation.
Furthermore, this year the event will also include the participation of players from the videogames industry with the aim of establishing a financial bridge between games and animation, two sectors that can generate synergies to meet changing audience demands.
This is the first time that Cartoon Movie will be held in France. The Rhône-Alpes Region has a strong and dynamic audiovisual network, which includes 650 companies, 23 research laboratories and 28 training programmes. Its capital city Lyon is leader in the interactive entertainment field, including videogames.
Organized every year since 1999 by Cartoon ^ European Association of Animation Film, Cartoon Movie brings together some 500 producers, investors and distributors of feature-length animation films from across Europe each year. The objective of the event is to increase the number of co-productions and cross-border projects, to facilitate financing and production and ensure the distribution of the films both across Europe and internationally.
Cartoon Movie 2009 is organised with the support of the Media Programme of the European Union, CNC (Centre Nationale du Cinématographie), the Rhône Alpes Region, Greater Lyon and in collaboration with the Cluster Imaginove (Lyon).
