LJUBLJANA: Haidy Kancler's first long documentary feature Skiing in Scarves / Afganistanke na smučeh has faced some challenges in postproduction because of COVID-19.

LJUBLJANA: Jurij Gruden's Sparks in Time – Worldwide Computer Adventure / Iskre v času – Svetovni računalniški podvig has entered postproduction but is facing delays and other problems because of COVID-19. This long documentary is based on the book The Cold War for Information Technology: The Inside Story by Janez Škrubej.

LJUBLJANA: Once Were Humans directed by Goran Vojnović and produced by Arsmedia, was successfully finished as planned in February 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the coproducers and the DoP were replaced during the process, but the drama about two men who get involved in human trafficking is scheduled for a domestic cinema release in the autumn of 2020.

BRATISLAVA: Production continues on Of Unwanted Things and People / O nepotrebných veciach a ľuďoch, an animated feature directed by David Súkup, Ivana Laučíková, Leon Vidmar and Jean-Claude Rozec, the recent winner of the French National Festival of Animation.

LJUBLJANA: Rahela Jagrič Pirc is preparing for the shooting of her first feature The Space Within Us / Vesolje med nami. This coming of age drama is expected to be shot as planned in June and July 2020.

WARSAW: Patryk Vega has downplayed the government's recommendations during the coronavirus pandemic and continued shooting his still-untitled film about a teenage prostitution ring scandal that shook Poland.

BUCHAREST: The Romanian director/producer Dan Chișu is currently in final postproduction with his no budget feature film Nine Stories of Love and Hate in Isolation / Nouă povești de dragoste și ură in izolare, which was shot with mobile phones by the actors themselves in a span of one week.

TALLINN: Some animation filmmakers are finding it relatively easy to continue with their work, although other productions have largely halted. The Estonian bundle content startup IMEPILT Studios is in production with the animated adventure comedy Danger Island, written by Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek (Disney’s Mulan 2020) and John Bellina (iZOMBiE).

WARSAW: Wojciech Smarzowski is developing a drama under the working title W2. The development process has not been interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the shooting is planned for 2020 in Poland and Latvia.

BELGRADE: The UK/Serbian/German horror feature Vampir is in preparation to shoot on various rural locations in Serbia during the summer of 2020. Vampir will be filmed in English and it will mark the directorial feature debut of Branko Tomović, the German and European actor of Serbian descent.

BRATISLAVA: Slovak documentary director Zuzana Piussi has finished the development on the social tragicomedy The Unbalanced / Zošalieť. The film is a Czech/Slovak coproduction between D1film production and the Slovak company Virus film. It was part of the Torino Film Lab Extended and the 2020 Czech Works in Progress online presentation

RIGA: The Latvian documentary filmmaker Ivars Zviedris has started documenting the evolving situation and people affected by the virus, in response to the restrictions introduced in Latvia due to COVID-19.

TBILISI: Georgian director Maradia Tsaava is currently in production with her first long documentary My Neighbour. The shooting for this Georgian/French coproduction started in August 2019.

RIGA: Russian spy series Pawns (Metrafilms), which was presented at the Berlinale’s CoPro Series, will be coproduced by Latvia’s Tasse Film. The series conceived by Michael and Lily Idov is set in the mid-1960s and focuses on a professional chess player Max, who is involved in spying activities. The director is to be announced.

WARSAW: Other People, a Warner Bros.- Madants coporoduction, will be the debut for director Aleksandra Trepińska. The film is based on a bestselling novel and is made with the support of the Mazovia Warsaw Film Commission. It is set to open in cinemas in the fall of 2020.

BRATISLAVA: Slovak director Mariana Čengel Solčanská is finishing preproduction on the fairytale The Enchanted Cave / Zakliata jaskyňa. Shooting of the Slovak/Czech/Slovenian coproduction is planned for the summer of 2020.
