BRATISLAVA: The Slovak/Czech comedy Invalid by Jonáš Karásek together with the Slovak/Czech historical drama The Chambermaid directed by Mariana Čengel Solčanská lead the 13th Sun in a Net awards nominations with 13 nods each, followed by Slovak/Czech We Have Never Been Modern / Úsvit by Matěj Chlupáček with six nominations. The awards will be announced on 26 April 2024.

BRATISLAVA: Successful Slovak documentary filmmakers Lucia Kašová, Barbora Sliepková and Viera Čákanyová are in mid-production with Wasteland Chronicles / Zóny nikoho, a dystopian documentary exploring three Slovak ecological disasters: the tar dump in the village of Predajná and the pollution caused by chemical factories on the eastern border of Slovakia and in Bratislava.

BRATISLAVA: Jan Sebechlebský has just started shooting the historical family road film Secret Delivery / Tichá pošta. The film is a production between Czech´s 8Heads Productions and Slovak´s ARINA FILM, in coproduction with the Czech Television, the Radio and Television Slovakia, Barrandov Studio and Moss & Roy.

BRATISLAVA: Indian-born British-American film editor Tariq Anwar, British cinematographer / photographer Peter Suschitzky and Icelandic screenwriter / director Rúnar Rúnarsson will be coming to Bratislava for the 11th Visegrad Film Forum, which will take place at the Film and Television School of the Academy of Performing Arts from 13 to 16 March 2024.

BRATISLAVA: Members of the Slovak Film and Television Academy SFTA elected film producer Katarína Krnáčová as the president of SFTA, succeeding Wanda Adamík Hrycová, who held the position since 2018. Film producer and director Ivan Ostrochovský became the new vice-president of the Academy.

LOS ANGELES: Slovak animator David Stumpf won the award for Outstanding Motion Design for his work on Marvel Studios' series Ms. Marvel, Polish costume designer Barbara Kuźnar earned an accolade for Outstanding Period Costumes for the second episode of the Netflix hit The Great, while Romanian Bianca Boeroiu received the award for Outstanding Contemporary Makeup for Tim Burton’s Wednesday at the 75th Emmy Awards held on 15 January 2024.

BRATISLAVA: The Columbian short film Worlds Burning Amid the Shadows / Entre las sombras arden mundos directed by Ismael García Ramirez won the international short films competition at the 17th edition of the Slovak Queer Film Festival. It was the first time that the festival, held in Bratislava from 22 to 28 November 2023, organised a competitive section.

BRATISLAVA: Slovak director Peter Kerekes is currently in mid-production with his documentary Marathon / Košický maratón – príBEH mesta. The film is produced by Slovakia’s Kerekesfilm in coproduction with Czech´s Hypermarket Film, Hungarian Eclipse Film, the Radio and Television Slovakia and the Czech Television.

BRATISLAVA: The historical family drama Réveillon / A máme čo sme chceli by Michal Kunes Kováč, ranks first in the Slovak charts after opening in the second position on 19 October 2023. In its second week in cinemas, this Slovak/Canadian coproduction left behind the new drama by Martin Scorsese and the animated film Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie.
